Shells Baby Hat

This is a lovely shell stitch pattern that’s quick to work up. The hat is worked in the round, and it’s sized for newborn through 3 months. The pattern is available on ravelry as a free download, and you can use super bulky yarn with a J10/6.00mm hook to make it in no time!

Bow Baby Hat

Materials:

  • size H hook (5 mm)
  • worsted weight yarn in a color of your choice

Directions:

Start by making the bow. Chain 10, then make 2 single crochet in the second stitch from hook, 1 single crochet in each of next 5 stitches, 3 single crochet in 6th stitch from hook. Continue until you have 8 loops on hook, then slipstitch off (see picture below).

Once you’ve made your bow and are ready to start crocheting into rounds again, join yarn at back of hat with sl st and ch 2. Make 1 sc around bottom edge of hat brim row 2 for 12 rows total or as long as needed to cover up any imperfections if needed. Break off leaving about an inch tail for sewing on bows later.

Pineapple Baby Hat

This pattern works up quickly, and is a great way to use up yarn scraps. You can also substitute different colors for the pineapple appliqués, or leave them out entirely.

If you want to make your hat more durable (and for older kids), you could use a thicker yarn and larger hook. I used Red Heart Soft Yarn in Delft Blue (less than 1 skein), a 3mm hook, and my finished hat measured 8″ across when unstretched.

Bunny Baby Hat

Here’s the crochet pattern for the bunny hat.

In order to make the ears, chain 4 stitches and slip stitch into the fourth chain from the hook. Chain 2 more and then single crochet in each stitch for 3 rows (4 stitches). Cut your yarn and fasten off.

Make two of these pieces for each ear. Then fold one piece in half along its length and sew up one end. This will form a tube shape after you slip it over one side of your head as shown above on my model’s head! Lastly sew on some eyes with black embroidery floss or worsted weight yarn over top of them (I used a size E/4 crochet hook).

The bow tie was made by crocheting around a piece of cardboard cut from an empty cereal box using Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Cherry Red which matched well with our model’s t-shirt at that time 🙂

Hearts Baby Hat

A warm, adorable hat for your tiny one. This pattern is available for free on the Moogly blog and includes both written instructions with photos and a full video tutorial to help you along the way.

If you prefer written instructions in US terms, UK terms or Australian terms, there’s an option for that too! It can be made with any soft worsted weight yarn (or even doubled up on bulky yarn), but I must say that I love how the baby alpaca from Lion Brand looks in this style of hat.

Kitty Cat Baby Hat

There’s no denying that cats are among the most adorable creatures on Earth. This crochet baby hat pattern will leave you feeling like a real cat lover with its whiskers, eyes and nose.

The finished project looks almost exactly like a kitty cat. The ears have been crocheted separately from the rest of the hat to give them more dimension, while still keeping it lightweight enough for babies to wear comfortably.

The nose is also in two pieces – one large triangle and one smaller triangle with an opening in the middle so that it can be sewn over top of the first piece (see photos below).

Note: If using worsted weight yarn instead of chunky weight yarn, please adjust your hook size down to US H-8/5mm or US I-9/5.5mm (this will make your hat come out smaller).

Lion Baby Hat

This adorable crochet hat pattern is available on Ravelry and is designed for newborns and up to 3 years. It comes in two sizes, small and large.

You’ll need a worsted weight yarn (Red Heart Classic has a great color selection). The pattern is written in US terminology and you can find it here (not affiliated with us).

Post Stitch Triangle Baby Hat

The pattern is available for free on Ravelry.

This hat is written in US terms, and it’s intended for worsted weight yarn. The size M hook would work well if you have a slightly smaller head than the average newborn. If you have a larger-than-normal noggin (or just want to make sure your baby hat will fit longer), go ahead and use an H hook instead!

The pattern uses post stitches to form the triangle pattern, which gives it a nice look without requiring too much effort for beginners.
